This is Conall. Since Sam's posting so much I guess I'll join in.

So I just recently saw for the first time the video for Take Control by Amerie. The song obviously is really good, but the video is nuts: for no apparent reason, it's like a homage to Antonioni's Blowup. Literally scenes from the film are re-enacted, with Amerie in the Vanessa Redgrave role and some dude as David Hemmings. I'm not entirely sure how I feel about it - there's something regressive about placing the male photographer in the position of "control," when in the film (and even moreso the Cortazar story, although there he's not a photographer) he is obviously anything but. Still, that's the fascinating thing about this song also - she's both blatantly submissive and simultaneously undermining that submission.

In other news, Dorian Stuber is sad he won't be around for Vampire Weekend in a couple of weeks, which I didn't even know was happening until five minutes ago. Also, the I'm Not There soundtrack is pretty good, esp. Yo La Tengo doing 4th Time Around which was the first song we played on our show today. so everyone just fucking loves reckoner, don't they? i did too, for like five minutes. but then conall pointed out this other song that's exactly the same from 2005. it's by sebastien tellier, this guy who's on the lost in translation soundtrack. check it out.

ok, wtf. the lowest review i have seen for this album is four stars out of five. why???? it's far worse than hail to the thief, which is itself worse (but not far worse) than amnesiac, which is itself worse (barely) than kid a. radiohead has had a slow-- but quickening-- decline in goodness since 2000. stop fucking freaking out about shit!

Radiohead has announced their new album will be sold two ways: on their site where you name your own price to download, or as a "discbox" which will include the album on cd AND vinyl along with 7 bonus tracks and a plethora of other goodies. Good to see that artists are getting the right idea even if the labels are still trying to eat their own fecal matter out of the toilet (not yet potty trained for those who don't get it).
